Treatment for heart failure has four goals, according to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute:

  • To treat the cause of your heart failure; this could mean bringing blood pressure or diabetes under control or treating coronary artery disease

  • To ease symptoms and improve your quality of life

  • To halt progression of the disease

  • To prolong your life span
